From the Ashes : The tale of the Fallen Women of Bhaghuz

In the shadow of Baghuz’s ruins, the last bastion of a fallen caliphate, a defiant woman stood amidst the ashes of war. With unwavering resolve, she proclaimed, “Our men have perished, claimed by the merciless tide of battle, but we, the women of Baghuz, shall not break. We will cradle our children and shield our elders, forging their spirits in the fire of our grief. We will raise a new generation, fierce and unyielding, to rise against the tyrants who seek to crush us.”

The final offensive against the Islamic State in Baghuz, Syria, peaked in early 2019, led by the U.S.-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) with heavy coalition airstrikes. Baghuz was the last sliver of territory held by ISIS, and the scene was apocalyptic—thousands of people, including fighters, their families, and civilians, were crammed into a shrinking pocket along the Euphrates River.

We will raise our young and care for our old to forge a new generation, unbroken, to carry on.“ were the echoes from the camps of the last stronghold of the Caliphate back in 2019. In the shattered remains of Baghuz, with bombs falling and their world collapsing, the women held their children close and stood by the frail elderly. Through tears and defiance, they swore: “We will lift the flag of tawhid high, raising our young and shielding our old, to build a new generation that will never bow.”
